Sudanese agriculture: The water situation is stable and needs are secured.

July 18, 2026 (PEN) The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation confirmed that the water situation in the country is stable and reassuring, with the revenues of the White and Blue Niles and the levels of the Jebel Aulia Dam recording rates higher than the general average and the levels of the previous year.

The General Directorate of Reservoirs explained that a temporary decrease occurred in the inflow to the Roseires Dam during the period from July 7 to 9, from 207 to 129 million cubic meters per day, which led to a decrease in the discharge behind Roseires and Sennar, and a temporary drop in the levels of the Nile in Roseires, Khartoum, Wad Madani and Shendi.

The ministry attributed the decrease to the decline in the discharge of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, stressing that the ebb and flow of the Nile and its branches is a natural phenomenon, but that the construction of the Renaissance Dam has led to a change in the river's hydrology.

She pointed out that dealing with these changes is done through the technical operation of the reservoirs and carrying out the necessary treatments to ensure the stability of water supplies and maintain the required levels.

The ministry confirmed the existence of a high-level committee, headed by the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Ismat Qureshi, to monitor the situation around the clock.

The ministry reassured citizens and farmers that water needs are secured, which will support the success of the agricultural season.
