Sudan discusses with the United Nations support for early recovery and economic reform

August 18, 2026 (PEN) The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning discussed with the United Nations Mission in Sudan ways to move from providing humanitarian aid to supporting early recovery and sustainable development, along with a number of priority economic issues.

This came during a meeting between the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Mohamed Nour Abdel-Daim, and the Regional Director of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Zuzana Praxiona, where the two sides discussed financial reform, reform of economic systems, and the file of exempting Sudan’s external debts.

The meeting also addressed mechanisms to support the national economy during the next phase, in order to enhance economic stability and support recovery efforts.

Prexiona affirmed the United Nations' commitment to providing technical assistance in the areas of revenue improvement and tax policy development, which helps to increase collection efficiency and strengthen local resources.

The United Nations expressed its readiness to provide support in developing policies to reduce gold smuggling and to make optimal use of foreign exchange revenues in managing monetary and fiscal policy, within an integrated technical support package aimed at macroeconomic stability.
