Sudanese-Yemeni coordination to protect navigation in the Red Sea

2/August/2026 (PEN) The foreign ministers of Sudan and Yemen stressed the importance of intensifying coordination between the coastal states to protect navigation in the Red Sea and preserve its security and stability.

On Saturday morning, Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohi El-Din Salem Ahmed and his Yemeni counterpart Afrah Abdul Aziz Al-Zuba discussed the latest regional developments in a telephone call, stressing the need to protect the freedom and safety of international navigation based on the shared responsibility of the countries of the region.

During the call, Minister Ahmed expressed his congratulations to Al-Zuba on her appointment, wishing her success, and emphasizing Sudan’s keenness to strengthen bilateral relations with Yemen and elevate them to broader horizons in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples.

For her part, the Yemeni minister thanked her Sudanese counterpart for the congratulations, and stressed her country’s keenness to develop areas of cooperation and coordination with Sudan.

Ahmed praised the deep-rooted fraternal and historical relations between the two countries, and at the end of the call, both sides agreed to continue consultations on issues of common interest and to work to enhance regional security and stability.
