The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate announces its solidarity with the teachers' strike.

June 16, 2026 (PEN) The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate announced yesterday, Monday, its full solidarity with the open and gradual strike of male and female teachers in a number of states, in protest against the deteriorating living conditions, the erosion of wages and the delay in paying dues since the outbreak of the war.

The union affirmed the legitimacy of the peaceful strike, considering it a union right guaranteed by the constitution and international conventions, stressing its position in support of workers’ issues in various sectors.

The union held the government fully responsible for the worsening state of education, warning against taking any punitive measures against the strikers, as this could complicate the crisis and hinder solutions.

The union called for an urgent response to the teachers’ demands, through the approval of a fair minimum wage, the disbursement of delayed salaries, and the opening of a serious dialogue with teachers’ representatives to develop an emergency plan to rehabilitate the education sector after the war.

The union saluted the sit-ins by Kassala teachers, the strike by Al-Jazira teachers, and the readiness of Khartoum teachers to escalate, stressing that this movement reflects a legitimate determination to defend professional and economic rights.

In closing, the union called on unions and civil society organizations to support teachers, stressing that "there is no development without education, and no education without a decent life for male and female teachers."
