The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate condemns the bombing of North Kordofan TV station.

3 May 2026 (PEN) The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate condemned the bombing of the North Kordofan TV building in El Obeid on Thursday evening by a drone that it said belonged to the Rapid Support Forces, considering the attack a "flagrant violation" of international humanitarian law that amounts to war crimes.

The union said in a statement that the attack resulted in serious material damage to the building, noting that it comes within what it described as "systematic practices" that have affected journalists and media institutions in Sudan.

She added that these practices resulted in the deaths of 34 journalists, including 5 female journalists, in addition to the destruction and looting of a number of media institutions, and the cessation of work of print newspapers and the majority of media institutions.

The union stressed that media institutions, especially radio and television, represent a living memory for peoples and a fundamental reference in documenting history, peace processes and nation-building, emphasizing its rejection of turning the media into a tool of war, and journalists into fuel for it.

The union reiterated its demand for full protection for journalists, as guaranteed by international laws and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, considering that targeting civilian facilities and media institutions and endangering the lives of journalists represents a serious violation that threatens media freedom and the safety of its workers.
