The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate congratulates four journalists on winning international awards.

June 20, 2026 (PEN) The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate yesterday congratulated three Sudanese female and male journalists who won prestigious international journalism awards for 2026, in an achievement the syndicate described as "a beacon of truth in the face of the darkness of war."

The union said in a statement that journalist Zainab Mohammed Saleh received the Knight International Journalism Award from the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), in recognition of her reporting from conflict zones and her documentation of violations for major international media outlets.

Journalist Mohamed Amin also won the “Journalist of the Year 2026” award from One World Media Foundation, for his exceptional coverage of the stories of Sudanese people in their popular resistance against the Rapid Support Forces, especially in hard-to-reach areas.

Journalist Heba Abdel Azim won an award from the Green Tiger and German Taz Foundations for her creative piece "The New Sudan... When it Flourishes on the Banks of the Yellow Nile 2050," amid competition from 25 female journalists from 16 Arab countries.

Journalist Malaz Hassan Al-Badawi also won the second prize from the same organization, for her journalistic work "Will Women Save Sudan?".

The union praised the timing of these achievements with the International Day to Combat Hate Speech, stressing that "the Sudanese journalist's commitment to professionalism and responsibility is our strongest weapon against hate speech and discrimination."

The union said the awards reflect the determination of Sudanese journalists to carry out their mission despite the deteriorating security situation, the difficulty of communication and movement, and the threats of war.

The union concluded its statement by paying tribute to Sudanese journalists, both men and women, "who continue to struggle with words and images, and are making a glorious history for this humanitarian profession."
