Britain warns of a repeat of the El Fasher atrocities in El Obeid.

June 24, 2026 (PEN) British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper warned that the city of El Obeid could witness new atrocities that would deepen the wounds left by the abuses in El Fasher, stressing that "this cannot be allowed to happen again."

Cooper said in a statement issued Tuesday that the world witnessed last year "in all horror" the actions of the Rapid Support Forces in El Fasher, including rape, theft and murder, adding that they left behind nothing but destruction and death.

She noted that she met survivors from El Fasher who are still haunted by the psychological trauma they experienced, stressing the need to prevent a recurrence of such violations in El Obeid.

El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, is one of the Sudanese cities most affected by the armed conflict, as it has witnessed violent clashes and widespread violations against civilians.
