Washington condemns the targeting of the vital Ardamata bridge in western Darfur.

June 13, 2026 (PEN) The United States condemned the attack it said was carried out by the "Sudanese Armed Forces" with drones last Tuesday, June 9, targeting the vital Ardamata Bridge in West Darfur.

The US State Department, through the African Affairs Bureau's account on the "X" platform, said that the bridge is a vital artery for humanitarian partners, foremost among them the Sudanese Humanitarian Fund, to deliver food and medical supplies to Zalingei and other areas in western and central Darfur.

The ministry noted that more than 31.3 million tons of aid have crossed the bridge since the beginning of 2026.

Washington stressed that "there is no military solution to this conflict," calling on all warring parties to immediately agree to a humanitarian truce to ensure that essential aid reaches millions of Sudanese in need.

The United States stressed the need to protect civilian infrastructure in Sudan.

The Ardamata Bridge is a key land crossing for the entry of humanitarian aid, linking the Darfur and Kordofan regions, at a time when the suffering of millions of civilians from shortages of food and medicine has worsened since the outbreak of war in April 2023.
