Ministry of Energy: Electricity will be restored via the Marawi-Murkhiyat line next Sunday.

August 11, 2026 (PEN) The Ministry of Energy and Oil announced the continuation of maintenance work at the Merowe Dam power generation station, following the arrival of the required equipment and spare parts from China, confirming that the engineering and technical teams are currently continuing the installation, connection, inspection and testing operations to repair the malfunction that affected the station.

The ministry said in a press statement that next Sunday is the expected date for the completion of maintenance work and the start of the station’s return to operation, starting with the Marawi-Al Murkhiyat line, explaining that the final date remains linked to the progress of technical work, the success of tests and the completion of safety procedures.

The ministry indicated that the return of the Merowe-Murkhiyat line will contribute to restoring electricity supply to the states of Khartoum, River Nile and Red Sea, while technical work continues to restore the rest of the lines successively during the days following the initial operation.

The ministry denied the validity of the news circulating about the completion of maintenance work and the full restoration of electricity, stressing that the nature of the fault that affected the station's cables requires high precision in repair work and intensive testing before final restart to ensure the stability of the supply.

In this context, the ministry explained that some transmission lines in other states were subject to malfunctions due to natural conditions, which led to fluctuations in the current in some areas, stressing that technical teams are currently working to address these malfunctions within an urgent plan to contribute to the stability of the national network.
