Cairo and Riyadh stress the need for a humanitarian truce in Sudan.

September 18, 2025 (PEN) The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, paid an official visit to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Thursday, in line with the directives of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The ministry stated that the Egyptian minister met during the visit with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef, and Minister of Commerce Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi, where the two sides discussed ways to advance bilateral cooperation in various fields.

She added that Abdel Aati's discussions with his Saudi counterpart also addressed developments in Sudan, noting that both sides affirmed their commitment to the joint position contained in the recent Quartet statement, which emphasized the need to reach a humanitarian truce that would pave the way for an immediate ceasefire, enabling the launch of a comprehensive political process that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people and preserves the unity of the state and its national institutions.
