The United Nations expresses concern over recent developments in Venezuela.

Secretary-General António Guterres (United Nations)
3 January 2026 (PEN) UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his deep concern over the recent escalation in Venezuela, culminating in the military action carried out by the United States inside the country, warning of worrying repercussions that could affect the security and stability of the region.

Guterres called on all actors in Venezuela to engage in an inclusive and constructive dialogue, within the framework of full respect for human rights and the rule of law, considering that recent developments represent a dangerous precedent, regardless of the nature of the internal situation in Venezuela.

The UN Secretary-General stressed the importance of respecting international law, including the UN Charter, and expressed his deep concern about what he described as a lack of adherence to the rules of international law.
