China asserts its sovereignty over Taiwan and condemns foreign interference.

January 1, 2026 (PEN) The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory and that Beijing will not accept any interference from any external forces in its internal affairs.

This came in a press conference held by Lin Jian, the ministry's spokesman, in response to media reports that Japan, Australia, EU institutions, and some European countries had expressed concern about Chinese military exercises around Taiwan.

The spokesman said during the press conference that Beijing opposes these irresponsible statements, stressing that China’s just and necessary actions are to defend its national sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

The spokesperson stressed that the Taiwan issue falls entirely within China’s internal affairs, explaining that the current situation in the Taiwan Strait is that both sides of the strait belong to one China, and that the biggest threat to peace and stability across the strait is the separatist activities seeking so-called “Taiwan independence,” as well as the collusion and support of external forces for these activities.

He stressed that the One China principle represents a global consensus of the international community and a fundamental norm governing international relations, noting that this is the political basis upon which China maintains its relations with the 183 countries with which it has established diplomatic relations.

He added that Beijing strongly urges these countries and institutions to strictly adhere to the one-China principle, stop interfering in China's internal affairs, and cease tolerating and supporting the separatist activities of separatist forces seeking so-called "Taiwan independence".
