The US Secretary of State congratulates his new British counterpart

July 6, 2024 (PEN) US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that Secretary of State Anthony J. Blinken spoke yesterday with the new British Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, to congratulate him on his appointment to his position.

Secretary Blinken and Secretary Lamy emphasized the enduring and essential importance of the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom in confronting the most pressing global challenges. They stressed the need to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and to support Ukraine in the face of the brutal Russian aggression.

Minister Blinken expressed his aspiration to welcome Foreign Minister Lamy to the NATO summit scheduled to be held in Washington next week.
