Araghchi is conducting intensive contacts to contain the escalation after the Iranian attack on Israel.

June 8, 2026 (PEN) Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held a series of intensive telephone calls on Sunday with the foreign ministers of Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, Iraq, Britain and France, as well as Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir, to discuss regional developments and ways to contain the escalation following the Iranian attack on Israel.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry explained that Araqchi reviewed with his counterparts the latest regional developments and the consequences of the Iranian response to the Israeli attacks on Lebanon, in light of what Tehran described as "repeated violations" of the ceasefire agreement, in addition to discussing ways to contain the escalation and the repercussions of the recent developments on the security of the region.

Tehran warned against any Israeli "adventure" against Lebanon or Iran, asserting in a subsequent statement that it would be met with a "crushing and comprehensive response," and holding the United States directly responsible for the ceasefire violations and their repercussions.

The ministry added that Iranian armed forces targeted several military sites in northern Israel in response to "repeated violations" of the ceasefire and Israeli military actions against the two countries.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry reported that its minister, Fuad Hussein, received a call from Araqchi, during which he provided a briefing on the motives behind the recent Iranian response and its potential repercussions, reviewing the developments of the war and the expected reactions.

The talks addressed all regional issues, with the two ministers stressing the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to reduce tension and promote stability, and calling on European countries to play an active role in supporting peace efforts, according to the Iraqi statement.

Araghchi made contact with Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir at a time when Islamabad is playing a mediating role between Washington and Tehran. Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran last Saturday for talks with Iranian officials, including Araghchi, carrying a "special message" from the Pakistani Prime Minister and Army Chief to the Iranian Supreme Leader, according to the Iranian Students' News Agency.

The contacts included British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty, according to Al-Sharq News.
