The Sultan of Oman discusses negotiations with Washington and the security of the Strait of Hormuz with an Iranian delegation.

June 23, 2026 (PEN) Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman discussed today at Al Baraka Palace with the Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and the Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, the latest developments in the Iranian-American negotiations, and Muscat’s role in supporting dialogue and reducing tension.

The Iranian delegation conveyed President Masoud Pezeshkian’s greetings and wishes to the Sultan and the Omani people for continued progress and prosperity, expressing Tehran’s appreciation for the Omani approach in promoting peace and stability in the region.

For his part, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq conveyed his greetings to the Iranian leadership through the Iranian delegation, wishing Iran and its people security and prosperity.

The Sultan listened to the Iranian delegation’s explanations regarding the course of negotiations with Washington, affirming the Sultanate of Oman’s support for efforts aimed at reaching a peaceful and final settlement.

The Sultan stressed the importance of resuming safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and addressing the nuclear issue and other outstanding matters through dialogue.

He affirmed Oman's continued support for dialogue and de-escalation efforts, and its role in bringing the parties closer together.
