Spanish defender Pau Cobarsi was crowned the best young player of the 2026 World Cup, after a heroic performance that led "La Roja" to win their second world title in history at the expense of Argentina 1-0 in extra time.

The 19-year-old Barcelona defender's triumph capped an exceptional run in the tournament. Kubarsi was a key player in Luis de la Fuente's squad, thanks to his defensive solidity, composure under pressure, and ability to bring the ball out from the back.

Kubarsi capped off the tournament in the best possible way in the final at MetLife Stadium. He delivered a superb performance, shutting down all of Argentina's attacking threats and directly contributing to Spain's clean sheet and title win.

With this award, Kubarsi confirms that he is not just a promising player, but one of the best defenders in the world right now, and adds a great individual achievement to a historic season with his club and national team.
