Mexico secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over South Africa on Thursday evening in the opening match of the World Cup at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

At the start of the second half, South Africa suffered a major blow when one of their players was sent off in the 49th minute, forcing them to finish the match with ten players.

The Mexican team took advantage of the numerical disadvantage and strengthened their lead with a second goal scored by Jimenez with a powerful header in the 67th minute, after a perfect cross from Roberto Alvarado.

South Africa failed to break through the solid Mexican defense, before suffering a second blow with the expulsion of another player in the 82nd minute, leaving them to finish the match with only nine players.

In stoppage time, specifically in the 90+2 minute, Mexico finished the match with ten players after Cesar Montes was sent off.
