France defeats Sweden with a hat-trick from Mbappe and sets up a meeting with Paraguay in the World Cup round of 16.

France secured their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a resounding 3-0 victory over Sweden early Wednesday morning, July 1st, at the New York/New Jersey stadium.

Kylian Mbappe gave Les Bleus the lead just before the end of the first half, in the 45th minute, after a pass from Ousmane Dembele, before Bradley Barcola reinforced the result in the 53rd minute with an assist from Michael Oliseh.

Mbappe returned to complete the hat trick in the 74th minute with his second goal of the match, also assisted by Oliseh.

The French dominance was evident throughout the match, while the Swedish team only managed one dangerous attempt through Victor Geukeris, which was saved by Mike Mainan.

With this victory, France continues its attacking prowess with 13 goals in the last 4 matches, after winning against Senegal 3-0, Iraq 3-0 and Norway 4-1.

France will face Paraguay in the round of 16 on Saturday, July 4, at Philadelphia Stadium.
