The African Union condemns an attack targeting peacekeeping forces in Sudan.

15 December 2025 (PEN) The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, strongly condemned the deadly drone attack targeting the logistics support base of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei in Kadugli, which resulted in the death and injury of several Bangladeshi peacekeepers, describing the attack as a grave violation of international humanitarian law.

Youssef said in a statement that targeting peacekeeping forces is a "heinous act" and a direct attack on efforts to promote peace and stability in Sudan, stressing that such attacks undermine security at both the regional and international levels.

Youssef stressed that attacks on peacekeepers are unacceptable, emphasizing that these acts will not deter the African Union and its partners from continuing to support peace operations and protect civilians.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for the swift identification and prosecution of those responsible for the attack, urging all parties to the conflict to respect their obligations under international law, particularly the protection of peacekeepers and humanitarian workers.

The African Union, according to the statement, affirmed its commitment to supporting peace, security and stability in Sudan, reiterating its support for efforts aimed at reaching a lasting and comprehensive political solution to the conflict.

Youssef offered his sincere condolences to the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured, and reiterating the African Union’s full solidarity with the affected peacekeepers and troop-contributing countries.
