"Sumoud" welcomes the Quartet meeting in Washington and calls for a comprehensive ceasefire.

July 29, 2025 (PEN) The Democratic Alliance for Revolutionary Forces (Sumud), led by former Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, welcomed the initiative to hold a meeting of the Quartet on Sudan in Washington, D.C., considering it an important step toward ending the ongoing war in the country.

Coalition spokesman Jaafar Hassan told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the initiative "represents a shift in the international approach," calling for the meeting to focus on regionally influential countries, rather than being limited, as in the past, to bringing together military leaders at one negotiating table.

Hassan called for a comprehensive ceasefire, ensuring access for humanitarian aid, protecting civilians, and launching a political process to address the roots of the Sudanese crisis.

He also expected the Washington meeting to proceed along two parallel tracks: the first related to a long-term ceasefire, and the second to launching a comprehensive political process leading to lasting peace. He also emphasized the need to avoid partial solutions that consolidate control on the ground or settlements based on power-sharing without achieving a genuine democratic transformation.
