Lamamra: There is no military solution to the conflict in Sudan.

April 17, 2025 (PEN) - The UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, expressed deep concern over the recent escalation on the ground, particularly in El Fasher and North Darfur, during a briefing to the UN Security Council on the second anniversary of the outbreak of the war.

"Civilians in Sudan are suffering from the brunt of this conflict in an unimaginable way," Lamamra said, warning that the humanitarian catastrophe could worsen as the fighting continues.

The UN envoy affirmed that "a military solution is not possible," emphasizing that the time has come to "adopt a comprehensive political path" that would end the conflict, spare the Sudanese people further suffering, and ensure the preservation of the country's unity and territorial integrity.
