Egypt and the United Nations discuss developments in the Sudanese crisis.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the African Summit (Egyptian Foreign Ministry).

February 14, 2026 (PEN) Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, met with Ramtane Lamamra, the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy to Sudan, on Saturday, on the sidelines of his participation in the African Summit in Addis Ababa.

Abdel-Aati stressed Egypt’s firm position in support of Sudan’s unity and sovereignty, and its rejection of any attempts to divide it or infringe upon its sovereignty, in addition to supporting a humanitarian truce that leads to a ceasefire and creates conditions for a transitional process that fulfills the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

Abdel-Aati praised the existing coordination with the UN envoy and the joint positions supporting Sudan, and the outcomes of the fifth consultative meeting hosted by Cairo on January 14, 2026, which reflected a model of cooperation between Egypt and the United Nations in supporting the political settlement process.

The Foreign Minister also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the UN envoy, stressing Egypt’s readiness to support his endeavors to bring about the proposed solutions, and Cairo’s pride in the close coordination with the United Nations on this issue.

The meeting reviewed the results of the contacts that Egypt is conducting within the framework of the Quartet Mechanism, where views were exchanged on ways to move the political process forward, assessing efforts to mobilize humanitarian funding, and discussing the next steps in the Sudanese file.
