Cairo and Washington discuss the latest developments in the Sudanese crisis.

July 12, 2026 (PEN) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty discussed with the US President’s Senior Advisor for African Affairs, Massad Boulos, a number of issues of common interest, including the latest developments in the Sudanese crisis.

During a phone call with Boulos, Abdel-Aati affirmed Egypt’s support for Sudan’s unity, stability, and national institutions, stressing the importance of respecting Sudan’s sovereignty and security.

He also stressed the need for serious engagement in a purely Sudanese-owned political process that leads to a comprehensive settlement that preserves the country’s sovereignty and meets the aspirations of its people for security, stability and development.

For his part, Paul praised Egypt’s role in supporting regional security and stability, stressing the US administration’s keenness to continue coordination and consultation with Cairo on issues of common interest.
