March 27, 2026 (PEN) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty held a telephone conversation with his American counterpart Marco Rubio, during which they discussed ways to support and strengthen the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States, in addition to discussing developments in the region in light of the current military escalation.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides exchanged views on a number of regional issues, most notably the Palestinian issue, the situations in Sudan and Lebanon, as well as the issue of Egyptian water security.

Regarding Sudan, Rubio expressed his appreciation for the role Egypt is playing in supporting efforts to reach a temporary humanitarian truce that paves the way for a permanent ceasefire.

For his part, Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of launching a purely Sudanese-owned political process that would lead to a comprehensive roadmap for building a new Sudanese state, without external interference or dictates.

He also stressed the need to preserve Sudan’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and to support its national institutions, appreciating the American efforts within the framework of the Quartet.
