Egypt and the European Union renew their support for the unity of Sudan and call for a ceasefire.

June 18, 2026 (PEN) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas reaffirmed their support for Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, independence, territorial integrity and the preservation of its institutions.

This came during the joint presidency of the eleventh Association Council between Egypt and the European Union, which was held in Luxembourg on June 15, 2026.

Both sides called for an immediate ceasefire and a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Sudan, stressing the need to launch a comprehensive political process led and owned by the Sudanese, with the aim of a democratic transition to a civilian government.

They stressed the importance of ensuring the continued and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people.

These positions come amid the ongoing armed conflict in Sudan since April 2023, and the resulting widespread humanitarian crisis, which UN reports describe as the largest in the world.
