The Kassala Teachers' Committee suspends the strike for a week and praises the teachers' steadfastness.

19/July/2026 (PEN) The Higher Strike Committee of the Sudanese Teachers Committee in Kassala State announced the suspension of the strike for a week starting from today, to allow the opportunity to test the seriousness of the authorities in implementing what was agreed upon and disbursing the 2025 entitlements.

The committee confirmed in a statement on Sunday that the decision came after consultation with representatives of the eleven localities in the state and monitoring the start of the disbursement of some entitlements, especially in the localities of Al-Qurba, Halfa Al-Jadeeda, rural West Kassala, and Wad Al-Haliu.

The committee praised the steadfastness of male and female teachers during the "rights first, then duty" battle, stressing that the tangible progress achieved in the file of amending entitlements is the result of unity and organized strike, and not a gift from anyone.

She explained that the files of salary adjustments and arrears are still being followed up on, and that the committee will continue to exert pressure until all obligations are fully implemented.

The committee indicated that the state government bypassed the teachers' committee and dealt with bodies that "do not derive their legitimacy from the rules," stressing that the rightful decision-maker is the teacher, and he alone decides whether to start, suspend, or resume the strike.

The committee stressed that suspending the strike "is not a retreat from the demands" but rather a "warrior's rest" to test the authority's commitment, warning that it is capable of resuming the escalation if the agreement is reneged on.
