Qatar affirms its support for the unity of Sudan and calls for an inclusive political dialogue.

June 16, 2026 (PEN) The State of Qatar affirmed its firm position in support of the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sudan, and its categorical rejection of any interference in its internal affairs, calling on all parties to prioritize the national interest and spare the country the dangers of division and disintegration.

This came in a statement delivered by the Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in Geneva, Abdul Rahman Sultan Al-Marzouqi, during the enhanced interactive dialogue on the oral update of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission in Sudan, within the work of the 62nd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

In the statement, Qatar expressed its deep concern about the deteriorating human rights and humanitarian situation in Sudan, stressing that the war has resulted in thousands of casualties, the displacement of millions, and widespread destruction of infrastructure.

Marzouki stressed the need to hold perpetrators of violations accountable and not to allow them to escape punishment, calling on all parties to respect international humanitarian law, protect civilians, and facilitate unhindered access for humanitarian aid.

He stressed that a humanitarian response alone is not enough, reiterating Qatar’s call for the resumption of a serious dialogue leading to a political settlement that preserves the unity of Sudan and its institutions, and meets the aspirations of its people for security, stability and development.
