Teachers' committee renews its demands as the strike continues in 4 states

July 9, 2026 (PEN) The Sudanese Teachers Committee renewed its call on Thursday for the authorities to respond immediately to the teachers' demands, coinciding with the continuation of the strike in 4 states at high rates, despite what it said were arbitrary measures that included arrests and arbitrary transfers of a number of teachers.

The committee said that Blue Nile State witnessed a broad response to the strike, reaching 95%, with the participation of almost all schools except one, indicating the teachers' commitment to their rights.

The committee confirmed the continuation of the "strike of pride and dignity" in Al-Jazirah State, despite a campaign of arrests and arbitrary transfers, and the dismissal of the director of the school for the deaf in Wad Madani city as a result of the strike.

She considered that these measures confirm the justice of the cause, stressing that the solution lies in responding to the teachers’ demands, not in administrative and security escalation.

In Kassala State, the committee explained that the strike is continuing strongly in all localities, amid what it described as complete silence from the authorities regarding the legitimate demands of the teachers, considering that this reflects the unity of the teachers and their determination to obtain their rights.

In Khartoum State, the committee said that the scheduled strike was carried out today at varying rates, with reports of summonses issued to a number of teachers in Karari locality, continuing the pressures that it affirmed would not deter teachers from continuing their peaceful struggle.

The committee demanded the implementation of a number of urgent demands, including adjusting the minimum wage to be commensurate with the economic conditions, paying all outstanding financial dues and entitlements, fully implementing job rights, and halting all punitive measures against teachers.
