US-UN meeting to discuss humanitarian truce and political path in Sudan

June 24, 2026 (PEN) The US President’s senior advisor on Arab and African affairs, Massad Boulos, said he discussed with the UN Secretary-General’s personal envoy to Sudan, Pekka Haavisto, ongoing efforts to end the bloodshed and achieve lasting peace and civilian rule in Sudan.

Paul explained in a post on the “X” platform yesterday that the meeting addressed the ongoing efforts of the five-member group to move forward with a comprehensive political dialogue process, led by Sudanese civilians, considering this process to be of utmost importance for permanently ending the conflict in Sudan.

He noted that he and Haavisto would speak on Friday before the UN Security Council in a session on Sudan, amid continued fighting and the risk of further atrocities.

Paulus stressed that he would emphasize during the session the need for international support for a humanitarian truce, a path leading to a permanent ceasefire, and a process leading to a comprehensive Sudanese dialogue and civilian transition.

He added that the meeting also discussed how to ensure that the United Nations and its humanitarian partners have unhindered access to those in need of humanitarian assistance.
