Qatari Defense Ministry: Commercial vessel targeted by drone near Mesaieed port

May 10, 2026 (PEN) The Qatari Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday that a commercial cargo ship coming from Abu Dhabi was targeted by a drone in territorial waters northeast of Mesaieed port, resulting in a small fire on board without any injuries.

The ministry explained in a statement via the "X" platform that the ship continued its journey to Mesaieed port after taking the necessary measures and coordinating with the relevant authorities.

Qatari authorities have begun investigating the source of the projectile, while the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has urged ships in the area to sail with caution.

The agency is a key source for tracking maritime incidents in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

These tensions come amid a temporary truce announced by Washington and Tehran on April 8, mediated by Pakistan.
