Trump: The shooting will begin if Iran does not abide by the agreement.

US President Donald Trump (Newsweek)

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that all US ships, aircraft, and military forces, backed by additional ammunition and weapons "and everything appropriate and necessary to carry out lethal combat operations against a greatly degraded enemy," will remain stationed inside and around Iran until full compliance with what he called the "real deal."

Trump added, in a statement via the Truth Social platform, that if the ceasefire agreement is not adhered to — which he considered “highly unlikely” — then “the shooting will begin,” stressing that the response will be “bigger, better, and stronger than ever before.”

He stressed that the issue of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons "was agreed upon a long time ago," despite what he described as "misleading rhetoric," and affirmed that the Strait of Hormuz "will remain open and safe."

He noted that the US military is "currently resupplying and preparing," and is even looking forward—in his words—to its "next mission," concluding his statement with the phrase "America is back."

On Tuesday, Trump announced that an agreement had been reached for a two-week ceasefire with Iran, in a move aimed at containing military escalation and opening the way for diplomacy.

The agreement came after US threats of a major escalation, as Washington stressed that one of the main conditions for de-escalation was ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remained open and safe for international navigation, in addition to preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

This agreement reflects a temporary lull, amid international anticipation of the parties' commitment to its terms, and the possibility of it turning into a permanent agreement or a return of tensions.

These developments come in the wake of a military escalation between the United States and Israel on one side, and Iran on the other, which began on February 28 and resulted in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries, as well as widespread damage to civilian infrastructure, including vital facilities and service installations.
