America tells the G7: War on Iran could end within weeks

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio (Britannica)

March 27, 2026 (PEN) - Three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told his G7 counterparts on Friday that the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran is likely to end within weeks.

At a meeting of G7 foreign ministers in France, sources who spoke on condition of anonymity said Rubio did not ask his counterparts to contribute ships to secure the Strait of Hormuz now, but asked them to prepare to play a post-war role.

The exchange of attacks between Israel and the United States on one side, and Iran on the other, has continued since February 28, in an increasing military escalation in the region.

Hundreds were reported killed inside Iran, while Tehran responded by launching missiles and drones towards Israel.

Iran also announced targeting what it describes as American interests in a number of countries in the region, while some of these attacks resulted in deaths, injuries and damage to civilian facilities, which was met with condemnations from the countries concerned.
