Ukraine and Washington establish a joint fund for energy and mineral projects.

September 18, 2025 (PEN) Ukraine and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation announced the establishment of a $150 million joint investment fund, as part of the minerals agreement signed by Kyiv and Washington last April.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyridenko said the US foundation has committed to injecting $75 million, while Ukraine will contribute a similar amount. She noted that the fund's initial focus will be on projects in the energy, infrastructure, and basic metals sectors.

According to the foundation's statement, this move aims to support reconstruction efforts in Ukraine and strengthen natural resource supply chains for the United States.

It's worth noting that the agreement signed in April, promoted by US President Donald Trump, gives Washington preferential access to new Ukrainian mining projects in exchange for its investments.

The United States has been Kyiv's largest military supporter since the outbreak of the war with Russia in February 2022, and Trump emphasized upon his return to the White House that US aid must be matched by clear gains for the United States.
