A new Egyptian-Ugandan understanding to enhance cooperation in the fields of water and investment.

October 11, 2025 (PEN) The Republics of Egypt and Uganda agreed to enhance African cooperation and develop bilateral relations in the political, trade and investment fields, with a focus on water issues, counter-terrorism and regional challenges.

This came during the Ugandan Embassy's celebration of Independence Day in Cairo, with the participation of the Egyptian Prime Minister's representative, Minister of Labor Mohamed Gebran, who affirmed his country's commitment to strengthening relations and pushing them toward broader horizons for development on the continent.

Gebran noted that relations between Cairo and Kampala have witnessed significant development recently, culminating in the signing of five memoranda of understanding in the areas of water resources, agriculture, investment, and food security, in addition to mutual visa exemptions.

Cairo is working to expand its cooperation with the southern Nile Basin countries, amid ongoing challenges related to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). Egyptian investments in Uganda exceed $100 million, while trade between the two countries reached approximately $140 million last year.
