The "Steadfastness" Alliance welcomes the African Union's insistence on suspending Sudan's membership.

The African Union has confirmed that there is no military solution to the conflict in Sudan (Reuters).

February 12, 2026 (PEN) The Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces “Sumud” welcomed the African leaders’ adherence to the African Union’s position rejecting coups and unconstitutional changes, following the meeting of the African Peace and Security Council held today in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, which discussed a proposal to lift the suspension of Sudan’s membership without approving it, according to the alliance.

The coalition said in a statement that the council renewed its commitment to the governing principles of the union, on which it based its previous decision to suspend Sudan’s membership following the 2021 coup, noting that a large number of council members rejected the proposal to reverse the decision.

“Samoud” pointed out that the Peace and Security Council’s statement included positive points, most notably the emphasis on the absence of a military solution to the conflict in Sudan, the acknowledgment of the complex nature of the crisis, the call for an immediate humanitarian truce throughout the country, and the need to reach a consensual political solution under Sudanese leadership and ownership, while strengthening coordination between international initiatives, especially the five-party and four-party mechanisms.

The alliance reiterated its thanks to the African countries that it said had stood up to attempts to “deviate the African Union from its governing systems and rules,” stressing the importance of maintaining the neutrality of the Union and not adopting unilateral initiatives, in reference to the initiative issued by the Port Sudan authority, which it considered would prolong the conflict and deepen internal polarization.

The coalition affirmed its readiness to engage in all African and international efforts aimed at establishing peace in Sudan, stopping the fighting, addressing the humanitarian crisis, and protecting civilians throughout the country.
