Reuters: Bin Salman is pressuring Trump to end the Sudan war

November 18, 2025 (pen) Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud is expected to press US President Donald Trump to personally intervene to end the war in Sudan during talks in Washington, five sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday.

The sources, who are diplomats including two Arabs and three Westerners, added that the Crown Prince believes direct pressure from Trump is necessary to break the deadlock in negotiations that have been ongoing for more than two and a half years, pointing to his efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza last month.

The sources stated that Saudi Arabia, by raising the issue with Trump, is seeking to win over the American president, who presents himself as a peacemaker, as he has repeatedly expressed his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in resolving global conflicts.

According to the agency, the Saudi government's media office did not respond to a request for comment. Middle East Eye had previously revealed the Saudi plan to discuss the Sudanese issue with Trump.

According to Reuters, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Egypt are involved in an informal group known as the Quartet to resolve the conflict, but their efforts have not yet made tangible progress.
