UNHCR expresses grave concern over rapidly deteriorating humanitarian landscape in Niger

31 August 2023 (PEN) UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has expressed grave concern over the rapid deterioration of the humanitarian landscape in Niger.

With no clear solution on the horizon, the ongoing political crisis is creating uncertainty and concern, as the country continues to suffer from repeated attacks by non-state armed groups, especially near the borders of Mali and Burkina Faso, UNHCR said.

According to UNHCR, recent violence and attacks have displaced more than 20,000 people internally in the past month. This situation has also caused a high level of risk to the protection of refugees, asylum-seekers and their hosts.
