Final statement in Jeddah: Solidarity with Somalia and condemnation of the Israeli aggression against Gaza

January 11, 2026 (PEN) The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which met in Jeddah yesterday, Saturday, issued a final statement on developments in the situation in the Federal Republic of Somalia, following Israel’s recognition of the “Somaliland” region as an independent state.

The statement mentioned a number of decisions, including condemning the Israeli recognition of "Somaliland" and considering it a violation of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, affirming full solidarity with Somalia, government and people, rejecting any measures that undermine Somalia's unity or sovereignty, calling on the international community to address this violation, supporting Somalia's efforts at the United Nations to reject this recognition, and affirming Somalia's right to resort to international legal mechanisms.

The statement also condemned Israel’s continued aggression against the Palestinian people and its annexation and displacement plans, affirmed the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, called for an end to the aggression against Gaza and Israeli withdrawal, rejected the forced displacement of Palestinians, condemned Israeli settlement activity and house demolitions, affirmed Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, supported UNRWA and rejected any harm to it, and demanded that Israel be held accountable for its crimes.
